The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, spoke on Wednesday against the imposition of 25 % tariffs by the United States government to countries that buy oil or gas from Venezuela and ruled out that this affects Mexico.
«We do not agree with economic sanctions to countries is a principle of Mexican foreign policy. A person is not affected, a person is affected,» said the president during her press conference.
The Mexican ruler reacted to the announced that this week the American president, Donald Trump, did on the imposition of tariffs who buy Venezuelan oil or derived products either directly or through a third.
The measure will enter into force on April 2 and the Republican leader left in the hands of the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, the imposition of said tariffs on the countries that are considered relevant.
In this regard, Sheinbaum said that these types of policies are not beneficial: «We do not agree that there are sanctions, to countries, economic.»
However, he pointed out that this decree will not affect Mexico, since it does not matter oil from Venezuela.
«Today our goal is to keep during the entire six -year period (the production of) 1.8 million barrels per day. And that oil refine it in our own refineries and that is used for gasoline that Mexico requires, for the diesel that Mexico requires,» he emphasized.
This month, Sheinbaum promulgated the new laws of the Public Company of the Federal Electricity Commission State (CFE) and Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), the laws of the electricity sector and the hydrocarbons sector, and the laws of Planning and Energy Transition, which seek to promote energy self -sufficiency.
Pemex, the most indebted oil company in the world, reported losses of 620,605 million pesos (about 30,620 million dollars) in 2024; and its total financial debt rose 8.6 % to 92,482 million dollars.
