Venezuela’s Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, announced Friday that El Salvador approved, as part of the beginning of a criminal cooperation, the extradition of an alleged involved in a shooting against a trade in Maracaibo, capital of the state of Zulia (northwest), occurred in February 2023.

Through a statement, SAAB said that Richard Billings Cardozo, allegedly member of a criminal group called ‘El Yiyi’, will be extradited to Venezuela for being, he said, the «material author of the attack perpetrated against the carnage your express farm», on February 18, 2023, «in which a deceased person was» and three were injured.
«Our institution as the holder of the criminal action receives with approval the manifestation of will from the authorities of El Salvador to deliver this subject, whose extradition request was based on the United Nations Convention against transnational organized crime and the principle of international reciprocity,» added.
In addition, He described this decision as a «triumph» of the criminal cooperation that has been «sustained thanks to the efforts of both countries and has had Interpol’s invaluable support.»
Saab said that Cardozo was arrested after a red alert requested by prosecutors of the Zulia state for the «crimes of association to commit crimes, arms and ammunition traffic, obstruction of freedom of commerce, terrorism, intentional homicide qualified for futile reasons and aggravated extortion.»
«In this regard, all the Venezuelan authorities involved are executing the necessary efforts for the transfer and reception of said citizen to our country, where it will be presented before the competent courts to be tried for the crimes attributed to it,» affirmed.
This announcement occurs in the midst of tensions between the two countries, after the United States government deported to El Salvador more than 200 Venezuelan migrants accused of allegedly members of the criminal organization of Aragua, which was born in a Venezuelan prison.
On Thursday, the president of Parliament, the Chavista Jorge Rodríguez, announced that the administration of Nicolás Maduro has already «hired the best law firm in El Salvador to defend» and «achieve the freedom» of the more than 200 people deported last weekend to that Central American country, where he denounced that they are «kidnapped.»
