Russia supplied 100,000 metric tons of oil to Cuba as part of a «state loan,» said Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko visiting the island, in statements collected by the Tass agency.
This figure is approximately 735,294 barrels of oil.
«The state loan was granted to Havana by decision of the president of the Russian Federation, with about 100,000 metric tons of Russian oil delivered to Cuba on February 19,» said the official in the plenary session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Commercial, Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation between Russia and Cuba.
Chernyshenko said that Russia will continue to provide Cuba economic support and humanitarian aid through bilateral channels and specialized international institutions.
The official press on the island highlights that more than a dozen cooperation agreements were signed by both countries in this official visit.
Last month Chernyshenko asked Esteban Lo, during a visit in Moscow, that will speed up the Russian investment projects in Cuba, such as the Rusmarket LLC store and the Energy Agreement with Inter-Rao, signed in 2016.
The latter represents an unfulfilled promise of modernization in the country’s electrical infrastructure, which included the installation of four electric generation units of 200 megawatts in two thermoelectric plants.
