The social collapse that lights protests in Cuba

A total of 683 protests, complaints and civic actions counted the report corresponding to the month of March of the Independent Cuban Observatory of Conflicts.

The social problems headed by the lack of food, inflation and the crisis in the agricultural sector that voids the shortage of agriculture products is located in the highest number of claims with a total of 151.

«The shortage of food and basic services caused manifestations, including that of Mayelín Carrasco In Granma, which mobilized his community. The crisis led to more resistance acts, from graffiti to criticism in networks, «the organization said.

The irregularity of the products of the basic basket that the State sells through the ration book, many of which have months of delay. There was also discontent, with public services and citizen insecurity.

On the report, Cubans from the island described Martí News the reality they face.

The independent journalist Emilio Almaguer commented on the collapse of basic social services in Baracoa, in Guantanamo.

«The hospital, as such, has no supply, and many medications are already missing, and for surgery it is not easy to operate because you have to order the full kit for an operation that costs you more than 35 thousand pesos outside, because it does not appear here,» he said.

According to Almaguer, Baracoa is no exception. The same problem live the island’s residents «wherever, in all of Cuba,» said the communicator.

The collapse of the agricultural sector and the consequences for the food of the population is also collected within the monthly report of the Observatory. In this regard, two Cuban peasants explained to Martí News what is happening.

«Look, I was working in collection and who destroyed the collection, mainly, and who was hungry to the people, is the same government. Collection had a system to collect the productions that were greatly self -sided in the country. When there was a production left over one side, he moved to another, because he had his means for transportation, but the same government removed the transport to collection to make the bases of trucks. There they began to spoil the productions at the points and did not reach the town (…).

He added that the government itself has destroyed the country’s economy in a chain of bad decisions. «Based on errors, they have been ruling … it is not going forward based on errors.»

The peasant leader Esteban Ojete Abascal, resident in Los Palacios, Pinar del Río, said that in viander massifs such as vineyards and other municipalities in that province many peasants are losing the sowings due to lack of water.

«And then the management is supposedly from the peasant, and it should be in this case of the State, which is the one who must provide the means and conditions to the producer so that he can have all the necessary resources for the sowing of the products,» he said.

Ajete Abascal also alerted about the losses what the peasants are having, while the government does not have how to respond to the demand for food from the population.

«In San Diego de los Baños, the only thing that has come because we are not going to talk about the meat products, that no longer exists, and what has come so far are 7 pounds of rice,» concluded the peasant.
