The United States condemns «unfair detention» and «brutal treatment» to Navarro, Ferrer and his relatives

The United States condemned on Tuesday the arrest of the leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba José Daniel Ferrer and the abuse received by his relatives, as well as the arrest of the opposition Félix Navarro, and asked the regime of Havana to release all political prisoners on the island.

The spokeswoman of the State Department, Tammy Bruce, said in her habitual press conference that the United States «condemns brutal treatment and unfair detention of Cuban patriots José Daniel Ferrer, his wife and son, as well as Félix Navarro and other prodemocracy activists.»

«The United States calls on the immediate liberation of hundreds of political and conscience prisoners arrested by the Cuban regime,» he said.

Ferrer and Navarro were arrested in the morning of this Tuesday after repeated threats of the Cuban regime to return them to prison and revoke their probation, which he finally did.

In parallel to the arrests, the Supreme Court of Cuba announced the revocation of probation to both opponents, according to foreign press agencies accredited on the island.

«Although it is not part of this process, in addition to breaking the terms of their probation, (Ferrer and Navarro) are people who publicly incite disorder and disrespect for the authorities in their social and online networks, and maintain public links with the head of the United States Embassy Mike Hammer,» said Sosa, according to Reuters.

To Sosa’s statements, a state department official said in an email to Martí News that «Hammer, and the United States embassy proudly represents President Trump, implementing a foreign policy of» United States first «and demanding the accountability of the Cuban regime for its evil influence on the American continent.»

«We will continue to meet with Cuban patriots, religious leaders and those who fight for the freedoms of Cubans. The United States has not put the Cuban people against the regime; on the contrary, their corrupt, inept and failed policies have done so,» he said.

For her part, Cuban American congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, a Republican for Florida, denounced in networks that «the criminal regime of Havana again kidnap José Daniel Ferrer.»

«Only the cowards fear those who fight in peace! Each abuse condemns them more before the world. Enough of dictatorship!», He wrote in a message for the social network X.

His colleague, congressman Mario Díaz-Balart, demanded the immediate liberation of Ferrer, his family and the other arrested activists.

«Everyone is incommunicado and their assets have been confiscated. The regime is collapsing, and those responsible will account for their crimes,» he said in a message on social networks.
