These are the export items that will be most affected by the tariffs announced by Trump

The president of the Venezuelan Association of Exporters, Gustavo González Velutini, announced which products will be most affected by 15% tariffs imposed by Donald Trump on Wednesday to Venezuelan exports, the crab being one of those who will feel the greatest impact.

González said that the US represents only 14% of the country’s exports, the European continent being the main destination. «The strongest item we export is the crab, a 100% natural product of Venezuela,» he said.

He stressed that this crustacean, along with fresh frozen fish and methanol, make up almost 40% of exports. In addition, he said that with current tariffs for such products, they are now as follows: 3.75% for crab, 2.7% for methanol, and 1.5% for fish.

He mentioned that before these tariffs, these items enjoyed zero rates. Likewise, Velutini mentioned that the proportion of imports and exports is 6 to 1, emphasizing that Venezuela matters much more than exports.

How would it affect Venezuela?

On the other hand, the representative of the Venezuelan Association of Exporters announced several aspects in which Venezuela would be affected after 15%tariffs.

Verutini compared the situation with Colombia, a country that imposed lesser impact taxes. «Colombia has a 10%tariff, while we enter with 15%.» This puts the Caribbean nation at a disadvantage and would affect the competitiveness of Venezuelan products in the US market, he explained to Unión Radio.

On the other hand, he stated that such a situation could force Venezuela to strengthen their commercial relations with other countries in the region.

However, the consumer would also feel the impact of tariffs. «The American economy is based on consumption, and these inflation measures will affect consumers,» he said.
