They find the dismembered body of an Italian biologist in northern Colombia

The authorities of Santa Marta reported Monday about the discovery of the dismembered body of an Italian biologist who had arrived last April three to this tourist city in northern Colombia.

The Commander of the Metropolitan Police of Santa Marta, Colonel Jaime Ríos Puerto, informed that the remains found inside a suitcase are from the Italian Alessandro Coatti, a molecular biologist, with studies in neurosciences in the United Kingdom and professional experience in the Biology Society of London.

According to the information, Coatti was housed in a hostel of the Historic Center, which had come out last Friday. It was precisely the handle of the hotel found in the remains that allowed its identification.

After Coatti’s remains were found by a group of children next to the road that leads to the Sierra Nevada Soccer Stadium, the authorities initiated the investigations they found with the identification of the foreigner.

Inside the suitcase were only the head, hands and feet, so the authorities are trying to determine the location of the torso.

The mayor of Santa Marta, Carlos Pinedo Cuello announced through social networks a reward of 50 million pesos (about $ 11,385) for those who provide information about the fact.

«I have instructed the authorities to articulated the entire inter -institutional component that leads to the clarification of the death of the Italian citizen Alessandro Coatti. We offer a reward of fifty million pesos for precise information that allows us to identify and capture those responsible, ”Pinedo published on Network X.

The mayor added in his communication that «this crime will not be unpunished. Criminals should know that in Santa Marta crime has no place. We will persecute them until they respond to justice ».

Santa Marta, capital of the Department of Magdalena, is located in an area that is under the influence of the Self -Conquistadores de la Sierra, paramilitary group that has just broken the approaches to initiate peace dialogues with the government of the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro.
