A federal judge in Massachusetts temporarily blocked the Trump government to deport migrants to places other than their country of origin without providing prior notice and an opportunity to seek protection against persecution or torture, according to a document presented this Friday.

In an effort to increase deportations, the Trump administration has depended on regional partners to accept migrants from other countries of origin. For example, earlier this year, hundreds of deported migrants from the United States were sent to Panama, who agreed to receive them and eventually repatriate them.
In his Friday ruling, the Judge of the US District Court Brian Murphy temporarily blocked the administration to remove individuals who are subject to deportation from the United States to places that are not their country of origin unless the federal government provides the individual and its lawyer “a written notice of the country to which they can be removed”, among other measures.
