«They tied it as if it were Hannibal Lecter»: the concern about the recent arrests of tourists tried to enter the US

The images of the hundreds of migrants being transferred from the United States to a high security prison in El Salvador have been one of the most shocking about the new government policy of Donald Trump about immigration.

Since his arrival at the White House two months ago, Trump has launched a series of orders aimed at limiting the arrival of migrants to the borders and accelerating the deportations of undocumented people citing political arguments and alleged national security risks.

However, in recent weeks they have begun to meet disturbing cases of travelers, several of developed or «allies» of the US, which are arrested by immigration agents in airports and border entrance ports.

Germany and the United Kingdom have already launched alerts for travelers from their countries visiting the USA.

One of the most recent cases is that of Becky Burke, a 28 -year -old British tourist who denounces having been arrested for 19 days and, according to his parents, was chained in the style «Hannibal Lecter.»

The young woman was traveling as a backpack in North America at the end of February. When he tried to cross the city of Seattle (USA) to Vancouver (Canada), he was returned by the Canadian authorities.

The US federal agents did not admit their re -entry.

She was prosecuted for violating the conditions of her stay in the US as a tourist.

His parents, Paul and Andrea Burke, point out that he was a misunderstanding, since he had agreed with relatives in the US who would be responsible for making «domestic work» in exchange for allowing him to stay at home.

The young woman was «traumatized» after being transferred with «leg chains, chains at the waist and wives» to a detention center of the immigration and customs control service (ICE, for its acronym in English) and admitted there for almost three weeks before being repatriated to the United Kingdom this week.

«For 19 days he was wearing the same clothes in jail,» they said.

The Northwest Processing Center said in a statement: «All foreigners who violate the American Immigration Law can be arrest, detention and, if they are considered to be expelled by definitive order, the repatriation of the United States, regardless of their nationality.»

Undersecretary Tricia McLaughlin, of the Department of National Security (DHS), told BBC Mundo that today «the Trump government is enforcing immigration laws, something that the previous administration did not do.»

«Those who violate these laws will be processed, detained and expelled as required,» he added.
