Thousands of beneficiaries of the ‘Parole’ receive a government email: «You must leave the United States now»

The email you never wanted to receive arrived at the input tray after twelve noon on Saturday, March 29. «We have taken a measure in your case and needs your attention.» It was the first thing he read in the issue of the message sent by the United States National Security Department (DHS), which other Cubans like him also received – who prefers not to reveal their identity -, together with thousands of Venezuelans, Nicaraguans and Haitians.

By the country of Spain

In total, 532,000 citizens of these four countries to whom the administration of Joe Biden extended a way of legal migration, and that have now become, from one day to another, the new illegals of the Government of Donald Trump. «You must leave the United States now, but not later than the end of your probation,» says the message.

The letter sent to the emails of the beneficiaries of the parole Humanitarian, to which the country had access, says that the protection granted to the nationals of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela, and their relatives, will expire on April 24. It is the ultimatum that the Republican government gives to return to their respective countries. «We are all afraid, imagine that you get a letter that says you have to go to Cuba,» says the young Cuban, who, like most, is not clear about what to do.

The authorities’ message warns that «not going out on time can have adverse consequences for immigration.» «From the date of completion of your probation, you can be subject to accelerated expulsion in accordance with section 235 of the Immigration and Nationality Law (INA) or an expulsion procedure in accordance with section 240 of the INA, any of which can result in its expulsion, unless it has left the United States or has obtained a legal basis to remain within the United States,» continues the letter.

The DHS indicates that, those who decide to leave the country by land, must inform their departure through the CBP Home mobile application, the CBP One substitute, an initiative that Trump’s government launched so that illegal migrants could be self -destined. On the contrary, if the person «does not leave the United States before the end of their probation, will begin to accumulate illegal presence in the United States unless they are otherwise protected against such accumulation.» The accumulation of more than 180 days of illegal presence, they warn, can lead to the person being inadmissible if it requests the entrance to the country again in the future.

Trump’s government never hid his intentions to end the parole Humanitarian created by the previous administration and, as a waterfall, it has been undone of everything that implied the program with which up to 30,000 foreigners legally entered the country, under the umbrella of an economic sponsor, and with benefits as a work permit and legal permanence for two years. The first was to announce the end of parole The same day that the president arrived at the White House. Then, it was announced that the migratory processes of the beneficiaries were suspended. Later, they would revoke the legal status. And now, they have been placed for them to leave the country definitively, although many at this time have built a family, acquired properties or have paid taxes.

In the mail sent, the authorities also refer to the revocation of the right to employment that until now facilitated their status. «The DHS intends to revoke its employment authorization because the condition for which the employment authorization based on probation was granted (…) no longer exists,» he says.

Migration lawyer Willy Allen, who insists that «the hope of the United States government is for people to go on their own,» believes that thousands of them will not: «How many people are going to go to their countries alone?» Therefore, it is worrying that many of them will remain without a time without work permission and, therefore, in a legal and economic limbo.

Venezuelan, Nicaraguan and Haitian migrants concern him, above all, until today they have not presented cases of political asylum. Some Cubans, however, could be safe. “Cubans can be legalized by the adjustment law, which requires an inspection, an admission or a parole. He does not ask that you are legal all the time in the country, but part of time, ”he says. To the rest of the nationalities, the lawyer advises to request the political asylum as soon as possible:» They must have already presented their cases, if not, they have this week to do so. «
