The United States government imposed on Tuesday new sanctions against a global illicit financing network that supports the Hutí Rebel Group in Yemen.
According to him State Departmentthe network-void to the financier Hutí backed by Iran, Sa’id al-Jamal-has been acquiring weapons, double use materials and stolen Ukrainian grain, mainly from Russia, for sending to areas under Hutí control.
Among those sanctioned are two Afghan brothers based in Russia, Ushang Ghayrat and Sohrab Ghayrat (The latter with dual Russian-Fgana nationality), who helped Al-Jamal to coordinate stolen grain shipments from Crimea to Yemen.
Three Russian companies were also included in the blacklist: Ooo Edison, Ooo Kolibri Group and Ooo Sky Framein addition to the cargo ship Am toheusallegedly used to transport these goods.
The Treasury Department, through its Foreign Assets Control Office (OFAC), also indicated that they were identified Eight digital wallets used by hutis to transfer funds related to these illicit operations.
«The objective of these sanctions is to weaken the ability of the hutis backed by Iran to attack our naval armed forces, and stop their threat to the security of the United States and our allies,» the government said in an official statement.

Rotenberg, wife of the influential Russian businessman Boris Rotenbergclose to the president Vladimir Putinhad been sanctioned in March 2022 after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. His departure from the list was not accompanied by major explanations by the treasure.
