Venezuelan woman shot at alleged sicariate in Santiago, Dominican Republic

A woman of Venezuelan nationality was shot dead while moving in a vehicle through the Las Charcas sector, municipality of Sabana Church, in the province of Santiago, Dominican Republic. The incident also left a man who accompanied her.

The victim was identified as María Issamal Villasmil Atencio. His companion, Deni José Caraballo Caldero, was injured in the attack and is receiving medical care at a health center, reported in stable condition.

According to witnesses, an unidentified individual intercepted the vehicle in which the victims moved and opened fire without a word. The woman was transferred to a health center, where she died while receiving medical assistance.

The National Police has initiated an investigation into the incident, considering the possibility of a hiredness, since no belongings of the victims were subtracted. In the crime scene, the Scientific Police collected eleven 9mm caliber bullet caps and took the vehicle in which the victims, a Mercedes-Benz Model E300 in black.

The preliminary report of the authorities indicates that there was no robbery, which reinforces the hypothesis of the sicariato. As part of the investigation, a person has been put in police custody to be interrogated.

The National Police continues to deepen the investigations and it is expected to provide more details as information about this crime will be collected.
