According to preliminary information published by the National Seismological Center (CSN), the earthquake was recorded at 08:58 hours (12:58 GMT) and its epicenter was located 218.1 kilometers south of Puerto Williams, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
For the telluric movement, the hydrographic and oceanographic service of the Chilean Navy (SHOA) established Tsunami Alert.
The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) requested to evacuate the coastal coast of the Magallanes region and establish the beach area in the Chilean Antarctic territory.
«We call to evacuate the coastal edge throughout the Magallanes region. At the moment, our duty is to prevent and pay attention to the authorities,» published the Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, a native of Punta Arenas.
In his message, Buric reported that the Committee for Regional Disaster Risk Management (Cogrid) such as the National «are beginning» their coordination work, and that «all the resources of the State are available» to address the emergency.
So far there have been no material damage or affected people or injuries, and the authorities remain attentive to the risk of anomalous variations at sea level in coastal areas while the population continues to evacuate with peace of mind.
