Opposition analyzes whether participating in the election of governors and deputies

The Venezuelan opposition debate with «low profile» Voice of America a high spokesman for the block of parties that advers the government of Nicolás Maduro.

«We are analyzing the situation with low profile,» said Omar Barboza, executive secretary of the democratic unitary platform, an alliance of political organizations, unions and civil society members who oppose Chavismo.

The Unitary Platform supported in July last year with its card, from the former Democratic Unit table, Edmundo González Urrutia, a retired diplomat who could officially register as a presidential candidate in the midst of a snack of disqualifications to other applicants, including The leader María Corina Machado.

The opposition presented copies of the voting acts to affirm that they won the presidential ones with an advantage greater than 30 points over Maduro, which swore for a third mandate in January.

The National Electoral Council in July awarded Maduro, with 9 points ahead, however.

They hope to achieve a «unitary agreement»

That denunciation of electoral fraud raises a new challenge to an opposition that now discusses the positions of the different parties and organizations away from the public spotlights.

The idea of the opposition, according to Barboza to the Voait is «to achieve a unitary agreement» for the next elections to reveal it to its militants and civil society shortly.

On February 25, that is, within three weeks, the official deadline begins to present and modify applications for 23 governments, the Mayor’s Office of Caracas and 277 main councils and its substitutes of the National Assembly. Before, on February 19, there will be a first preliminary cut of the voting registry in Venezuela.

Machado, of the Vente Venezuela movement and considered the great mobilizer of the opposition vote in the presidential ones of 2024, has called a boycott of those elections.

«The elections were on July 28 and that day the town chose» as president to González, currently in exile, said the opposition leader at the end of January. In his opinion, antichavism should not participate in other elections «until this result does not enter into force», or, what is the same, that the candidate of the platform assumes the presidency.

Much of the attention to opposition participation or abstention in the April elections falls on the 4 adverse governors to Chavismo or independent who were elected between November 2021 and the first months of 2022.

In the past, Machado has accused Garrido, an emerging candidate in 2022, of being «absolutely related to Maduro.»

The looks about Zulia

Manuel Rosales, founder of the party a new time, has made several winks recent to its possible aspiration to re -elected as governor of Zulia, considered the jewel of the crown of the electoral corridor of the country -it has 2.6 million registered voters.

«I will not abandon this land, I will not betray Zulia,» he said at the end of January during an official act. He also promised to continue being «the captain of this ship.»

Days later, when presenting his memory and account of 2024, Rosales declared himself «ready for anything» and called to leave «the slogans and failed policies.»

This Wednesday, the former presidential and former governor of Miranda Henrique Capriles Radonski revealed that he would vote in April and said that participation is a «very personal» decision.

«Everyone does with their vote what seems best,» said the leader of the First Justice opposition party, considering that he would suffer would be a way of protesting «the electoral theft» of the presidential presidentials of 2024 and not losing spaces against Chavismo.

Chavismo, on the other hand, is already ready to choose its candidates for the governorates and the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, Minister of the Interior and first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) advanced this week.

Cabello said they will apply «filters» in thousands of popular assemblies of their militants to choose «strict» to candidates who then turn their backs to the ruling party.

Maduro, in power since 2013, has been unknown as a legitimately elected president by a group of countries, including the United States, Chile, Ecuador and Argentina. Donald Trump’s administration, however, sent an emissary last week to talk with the Venezuelan ruler and release 6 Americans.
