The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, warned Wednesday that Israel will intensify his pressure on the Hamas terrorist group if he refuses to free the hostages retained in Gaza.

«The more Hamas persists in his rejection of releasing our hostages, the stronger the pressure we will exert,» Netyahu said in Parliament.
«I tell my colleagues in the Knéset (the Israeli Parliament) and I also tell Hamas: this includes the capture of territories, along with other measures on which I will not expand here,» he said.
Earlier, Hamas threatened that hostages could die if Israel tries to free them by force and if he continues with his bombings in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the group indicated that it was «doing everything possible to keep the captives of the occupation alive, but that arbitrary Zionist bombings (Israelis) are endangering their lives.»
«Every time the occupation tries to recover its captives by force, it ends up bringing them back in coffin,» he added.
