A social networks campaign, in favor of the political prisoner Loreto Hernández García, has won the support of activists and recognized Cuban artists.
Hernández García, a member of the Independent Association Yorubas Libres de Cuba, was sentenced to 7 years in prison for his participation and leadership in the protest of July 11, 2021 in Placetas, Villa Clara.
With several videos in which they proclaim «let’s not let Loreto die», those involved in this campaign denounce the conditions of imprisonment of the opponent and religious leader that survives, despite their critical health situation, in the jail for men in Guamajal, in the province of Villa Clara.
The famous writer Zoé Valdés, the renowned filmmaker Lilo Vilaplana, the singer -songwriter Amaury Gutiérrez, as well as the leader of the ladies of Blanco, Berta Soler and her husband, the opponent Angel Moya, are among the main voices that seek an urgent action for the liberation of Hernández García.
In this sense, the Cuban democratic directory is also giving visibility to the complaint of the relatives of Hernández García: the express policy and conscience, Donaida Pérez Pasiro and his brother Jorge Luís García Pérez “Antunez”.
The former president of Costa Rica, Miguel Angel Rodríguez, is among the most notable support for this initiative.
Family members and human rights activists have repeatedly denounced that the political prisoner suffers from acute bronchial asthma, a heart disease, in addition to being diabetic and hypertensive.
The case of Hernández García has also been defended by the United States Department of State, the International Religious Freedom Commission (USCIRF) and organizations such as Amnesty International, the Cuban Prison Documentation Center and International Christian Solidarity, among other groups.
