They accuse a 17 -year -old teenager of a Venezuelan immigrant in New York

A 17 -year -old teenager was accused this Thursday in New York for the murder of the young Venezuelan immigrant Yeremi Colina, stabbed in the chest on December 5 in the financial district of Manhattan.

The authorities also accused another child, 16, also assaulting Colina, who had arrived in New York in December 2023 with his family as part of the recent wave of immigrants, mostly from Venezuela.

The defendant for the murder, who was arrested yesterday, remains in custody and faces another hearing at the Manhattan Supreme Court next Tuesday, according to local media. The defendant of aggression was arrested on December 24.

The authorities do not believe that the assumptions aggressors previously knew Colina or another 18 -year -old who accompanied him.

The victim lived at the Roosevelt hotel, turned into a shelter for families with children, along with her mother Beritza Colina and five brothers, according to the Gothamist newspaper.

His mother told the newspaper that Yeremi, a football fan, helped him take care of his brothers and worked to compensate for expenses while the family was heading to the US.

He also highlighted the newspaper that Yeremi saved his 9 -year -old brother from drowning in a river while they made the journey that brought them to New York.
