Borges reveals the reason for his political turn and the filtration that cost him decades in a prison in Cuba (Video)

Ernesto Borges Pérez granted this week an interview with Martí News in which he revealed the motivation caused by his political shock in the 90s and the reason why he was imprisoned for almost 30 years in the largest prison in Cuba.

The former Cuban counterintelligence agent, who turned 27 years in prison, most of his sentence in the maximum security prison of his combined, explained in the Martí Radio program «The news such as» how much the environment that lived in the extinct Soviet Union influenced in his destination.

In 1985, at the end of his secondary education studies in Cuba, Borges Pérez was sent to the communist country to study university studies at the KGB Higher School of Counterintelligence, acronyms that identified the dreaded safety agency of the Soviet State. In that country he also became a lawyer.

His training, he said, was deeply marked by the political and economic opening that Mijaíl Gorbachev led to with the Perestroika and the Glasnost. Therefore, on his return to the island, turned into an officer of the Ministry of Interior, and the contradictions in his vision of the Havana regime were clear.

In the interview with Martí News, Borges told how in 1998, he tried to pass secret information to an American official about a group of Cuban officers who were being trained to be infiltrated as spies in the United States.

As he revealed, this action did not reach the end because the counterintelligence detected it before the act was consummated.

He was 32 years old and the degree of captain when he was arrested on July 17, 1998 and accused of trying to pass secret information to the United States. He was tried for the crime of espionage, in a tentative degree, and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
