Cuban murdered with stabs in Morón; Feminist alerts that it is a crime linked to gender violence

Denis Rodríguez, around 50, was killed with a white weapon, last Sunday, allegedly, by the husband of a woman with whom she had a relationship, in a rural community of the Morón municipality, in the blind province of Ávila, according to witnesses to Martí News.

«The death of Denis is true. He was killed in a horticultural plan by the husband of the woman he had now. He was a neighbor of us a long time. It is contemporary with my smallest brother. But now I lived in (the cast) Peñaranda from here of Morón,» said Mario Valle, a friend of the deceased.

Rodríguez received multiple stabs from his aggressor when he was at his partner’s house in the Horticultural Plan, where the attacker also lived, known as «El Flaco», who is behind bars after he was delivered to the authorities, said a neighbor of the place who did not want to be identified.

«It was for jealousy. He was the beloved of a girl and the husband killed him,» he said.

In that sense, Iliana Álvarez, director of the Gender Observatory Alas Tenses (OGAT) considered, in conversation with our environment, that it is «a murder that occurs in a context of gender violence and for that reason it is a crime that has a macho connotation.»

«We must be very clear that men can also be victims of gender violence, yes that death has happened in a context of gender violence. The boy has died as a victim of gender violence,» he added.

«Feminicide is not considered, what is considered is a man’s murder in a context of gender violence,» he said.

The expert explained that the aggressor, in this case, kills his wife’s lover «because he wants to harm her or wants to possess her and not anyone else.»

«Moreover, all the circumstances that we do not know that they must surround that possessive relationship, that macho relationship that that murderer should have established,» he added.

A social worker who lives in a horticultural plan pointed out that, according to the stories of face -to -face witnesses, the victim pursued, throwing stones, the woman’s husband after a discussion between the marriage.

«The other boy, (the deceased), was a husband of her, long ago. I say ‘If something happened, it was for something. He, with whom he had problems was with his wife, that between the two men nothing were commented or anything said. The guy was the one who fell behind him with two stones and that’s why they were stabs,» he said.

Eleven stabs could be qualified, depending on the circumstances, such as cruelty. In the Cuban Criminal Code, the cruelty is considered an aggravating circumstance that may increase the penalty imposed on a criminal in cases of homicide, serious injuries and other crimes against physical integrity.

«This type of crime must be visible because it is also a consequence of the patriarchal structures in Cuban society. The same happens when the woman wants to harm: they do not kill the woman, but they kill the children, a sister. There we are in the presence of vicarious feminicide, which is a painful feminicide because she is sometimes murdered even even the children themselves,» Álvarez said.

«Ogat has registered several of these cases, for example, when a brother or a neighbor tries to prevent a woman from dying because she is being attacked, then the aggressor also kills him,» he explained.
