The «adolescence» series will be disseminated in British secondary schools

The Netflix miniseries «adolescence», which addresses the toxic and misogynistic influences to which young people on the Internet are exposed, will be disseminated for free in the Secondary Education centers of the United Kingdom, the British government announced Monday.

«This is an important initiative to encourage as many students as possible to see the program,» said British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who saw the miniseries with his teenage children.

The announcement occurred after Starmer met with the creators of the program, along with beneficial and youthful organizations, in his Downing Street residence, to speak the problems presented by the program.

The program, which is broadcast since March 13, is number 1 worldwide in Netflix, and until March 25 it had been seen by more than 66.3 million people, according to the platform.

In the United Kingdom, it has become a mass phenomenon and newspapers have published numerous articles on the issues raised by the miniseries.

«Adolescence» tells the story of a 13 -year -old boy Jamie, who is arrested and accused of killing a schoolgirl.

«We create this program to generate a debate. Being able to transmit it in schools exceeds our expectations, ”said Jack Thorne, a co -speaker of» adolescence. «

In four episodes, the series dissects the reasons that could push the young man to that act, evoking the influence of misogynist and macho speeches and the impossibility of controlling the use of social networks among adolescents.

«Talking openly about the changes in their way of communicating, the content they see and knowing the conversations they have between them is essential to properly help them face harmful influences,» said Starmer.

Maria Neophytou, of the beneficial child protection organization NSPCC, said companies have the «responsibility to ensure that their platforms and sites are designed to be safe for young users.»

In the United Kingdom, in 2023 a digital security law was approved, which has begun to enter into force, in order to strengthen the obligations of the platforms, in particular to eliminate illegal content.
