Independent platforms against gender violence on the island announced on Tuesday that the figure of femicides that occurred this 2025 rose to 14, according to data they have been able to verify.
The Observatories Tense Alas (OGAT) and I do believe you in Cuba (YSTCC) warned that «the little electric service and disconnection increasingly affect the verification of these painful crimes.»
On April 25, Daimí Tamayo Milián, 36, died after being attacked with a machete for his ex -partner, in the Caney diversion, in the Granmense municipality Bartolomé Masó.
According to the information collected by the independent groups, the aggressor identified only by the name, Yordan, fled and then committed suicide.
The death of Tamayo Milián left an orphan to a ten -year -old girl, also daughter of feminicide.
Two days later, on April 27, Yilianys Reyes Fundora, 17, was killed by his ex -partner.
The crime perpetrated by Eduardo Aguilar occurred in the Brazil Popular Council, of the Esmeralda municipality, in Camagüey.
In this case, gender platforms stressed that the victim is a minor and that leaves a two -year -old girl without maternal heat.
Martí News could not corroborate the capture of the alleged murderer because the telephone calls to the Esmeralda police station were not answered.
These two cases, documented by feminist platforms, were published by press media, citizenship and activists, and verified with community sources by the joint effort of OGAT and YSTCC.
Yanelis Núñez, main specialist at OGAT, asked the people possessing data on femicides that have happened in Cuba, both recent and in the past, to communicate with independent observatories: “We have our anonymous online form, but also our social networks open to be able to collect this information, since we become very difficult for the verification process and to achieve all the documentation that leads to registering a case”.
Both feminist groups investigate other femicide alerts in the western provinces of Havana, Artemis, Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba.
In early April, official media announced the creation of an «administrative, computerized and interoperable registration,» which is not public, about the violent death of women and girls for gender reasons.
As they said, this initiative will «identify risk groups and focus prevention, as well as address the repair of direct and indirect victims, among other aspects.»
In the Cuban Criminal Code, feminicide is not typified as a specific crime and the terms «feminicide» or «macho crime» in state media are not used either.
Only in 2024, the Gender Observatory of Tense Alas and the Femicide Observatory of I believe you in Cuba accounted for 56 femicides in Cuba.
In 2023 both organizations registered a total of 89 women’s murders, but the Cuban authorities indicated that in that same period a total of 110 women lost their lives due to gender violence.
