The Bolivarian National Police (PNB) of Venezuela reported this Saturday about the arrest of four people, allegedly members of a structured organized crime group (GEDO), in the Zulia state (Northwest, border with Colombia).
Through Telegram, the PNB indicated that a mixed commission, composed of more than 150 officials of the Directorate of Strategic and Tactical Actions (DAET), arrested these people, whom he points out as members of the Gedo El Guaro and responsible for «generating anxiety» in Zulia.
In the police operation, which was made after complaints from the communities, he said, the DAET seized a grenade, 100 high -caliber ammunition, a bulletproof vest, two portable radios, three military uniforms, a motorcycle, among others.
This week, the director of the Corps of Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations (Cicpc) of Venezuela, Douglas Rico, informed that the police arrested 8,254 people in the first six months of 2025 for being allegedly involved in several crimes.
Rico explained that, in addition, 3,516 ammunition, 513 firearms and 2,051 telephones were seized.
In January, the director of the CICPC reported that the homicide rate in the Caribbean country has decreased in a sustained way.
Venezuela, said Rico, closed the year 2024 with 4.1 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants.
Likewise, the police chief said that in 2016, that rate was 56 per 100,000 inhabitants, while in 2022 it was 6.7 per 100,000 inhabitants and in 2023, of 5.3. EFE
