Japan executed the «Twitter murderer», the man who manipulated his victims and dismembered them in his department

Japan has confirmed the execution of Takahiro Shiraishi, known as the ‘Twitter murderer’, after being found guilty of the murder and dismemberment of nine people whom he contacted through the social network in 2017, now called X. Shiraishi, 33, was hanged this Friday, as announced by Japanese justice minister Keisuke Suzuki, at a press conference.

The conviction used the Twitter platform to approach people with suicidal thoughts, especially young women. The victims, aged between 15 and 26, were attracted to their apartment in Zama, near Tokyo, with the false promise to help them die. Once there, they were killed and dismembered. Shiraishi also hid parts of the bodies in thermal boxes.

He was arrested in 2017, after the police found human remains at home after a complaint filed by the family of one of the victims. His death sentence was confirmed in 2020 without the possibility of appeal, since he resigned to challenge the ruling.
