The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, ordered Friday to deny and revoke visas to dozens of members of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority (AP), which had to travel to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

«The Trump administration has been clear: it is in the interest of our national security responsible for the PLO and AP for breach of its commitments and for undermining the perspectives of peace,» said the US Foreign Ministry in a statement.

The State Department considers that for both organizations to be valued as allies for peace, they must «systematically repudiate terrorism», including the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and end «incitement to terrorism in education, as US legislation demands and as promised by the PLO.»

As for the US Palestinian authority insists that «it must end its attempts to avoid negotiations through international legal war campaigns, including appeals to the CPI and the ICJ, and efforts to ensure the unilateral recognition of a hypothetical Palestinian state.»

«Both measures contributed materially to Hamas’s refusal to free their hostages and the failure of high the fire in Gaza,» the State Department said.

The mission of the Palestinian authority before the UN will receive exemptions according to the UN agreement, the US authorities said.

«The United States remains open to a resumption of collaboration in accordance with our laws, provided that the Palestinian/OLP authority complies with its obligations and takes concrete measures to resume a constructive path of commitment and peaceful coexistence with the state of Israel,» concludes the US statement.

For its part, the Mahmud Abás office, at the head of the Palestinian authority, has urged the United States to revoke the decision, received with «amazement.»

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the United Nations Organization, Stéphane Dujarric, said the international body will seek clarification of the State Department for this decision and highlighted in the importance that all members and observers can participate fully in the UN General Assembly.
